Head start
Free · IBM QuantumYou do not need any of this to take part — the workshops start from nothing. But if you would rather arrive already writing circuits, this is the order IBM teaches them in.
- 01Basics of Quantum InformationQubits, measurement and entanglement, built up from the linear algebra rather than from analogies. The foundation every later course assumes.IBM Quantum LearningCourse
- 02Run your first circuit on hardwareBuild a circuit in Qiskit and execute it on a real IBM quantum computer. The fastest route from reading about it to having run one.Qiskit documentation~30 min
- 03Quantum Computing in PracticeWorking with utility-scale circuits: transpilation, running at scale, and the noise you actually have to design around.IBM Quantum LearningCourse
- 04Variational Algorithm DesignVQE, QAOA and the ansatz-plus-optimiser pattern most hackathon problems end up reaching for. Worth skimming even if you stop at step two.IBM Quantum LearningCourse

FAQs
5 questionsIs registration really completely free?
Yes! Thanks to IBM Quantum and BITS Pilani, participation in all workshops, keynote sessions, compute hardware access, swag, and hackathon meals are 100% free for admitted students.
Do I need prior quantum computing experience?
No! The workshops and lab sessions are deliberately designed from the fundamentals up. If you know basic Python and college-level linear algebra, you will be able to follow and build real quantum circuits.
How do hackathon teams work? Can I register alone?
Hackathon teams can have between 1 to 4 members. You can apply as a pre-formed team or apply as an individual. We will host a dedicated team-matching session before hacking begins.
Do I need a special laptop or hardware?
Any standard laptop running macOS, Linux, or Windows with a modern browser and Python 3.10+ is all you need. Quantum circuits execute remotely on IBM Quantum cloud hardware via Qiskit Runtime.
Can students from universities other than BITS Pilani apply?
Yes! BITS Qiskit Fall Fest 2026 welcomes student participants from universities across the region. Hybrid livestream access will also be provided for selected keynote sessions.
